How Will Jesus Return?

The second coming of Christ Jesus is something that we all should be longing for, to see our Lord and Saviour return triumphantly as the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. But what is the Bible truth about the second coming of Christ? How will He return? Will He return in secret to "rapture" away His people, or will His return be like lightening all over the earth that every eye will see?

Matthew 24:27 .....'For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.'

This Bible verse is so clear as to how Christ Jesus will return at the second coming that we could just use this verse to know the truth. But here we don't base doctrines on single verses, so we will delve deeper into God's Word. To begin with though, does this verse suggest that Jesus will return in secret? No, the heavens will be lighted up with His coming. The following Bible verses reveal why we shouldn't believe in a "secret" type of second coming:

Matthew 24:23-26 ....' Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; BELIEVE IT NOT.'

There are so many Christians who believe and teach the secret rapture theory, and yet these Bible verses clearly tells us to "BELIEVE IT NOT", because as the very next verse reveals, the second coming of Christ will be like lightening and everyone will see it. And another thing that the above verses reveal is that there will be false christs and prophets. Now there have already been many false christs and prophets over the years, and many more will come, which is why we need to be so careful as to who we follow. We MUST test everything that anyone says or teaches with the Word of God in the Bible. The Bible is our ONLY authority.

2 Corinthians 11:14 ....'And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.'

Satan's master deception will be to impersonate Christ Jesus himself. Now something that concerns me greatly is that many, many Christians are looking to the nation of Israel for fulfillment of Bible prophecy, and they believe that when Jesus returns He will restore the nation of Israel and rule ON EARTH for a thousand years on His throne in Israel. Now there are a couple of problems with this. First of all, when Jesus returns at the second coming, He WILL NOT SET FOOT ON THE EARTH, instead we will be caught up to meet Him in the air:

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 .....'For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.'

Do you see that clear Bible truth about the second coming? Jesus doesn't come down ONTO the earth to be with us, we meet Him in the air. Please remember this important fact, as it will help us expose any false christ's and it will also help us expose satan's counterfeit second coming. Now there are those who hold to the secret rapture theory that use the "caught up to the clouds" in the above Bible verse to backup their belief, but as the verse also says, "Jesus will descend with a SHOUT". This is no secret event, on the contrary, it will be very noisy! The other problem with looking to Israel for fulfillment of Bible prophecy is that Bible prophecy isn't actually about the LITERAL nation of Israel, but SPIRITUAL Israel.

Did you notice the three stages of the second coming above in Thessalonians? Christ Jesus returns with a LOUD NOISE, the dead saints hear His call and RISE FROM THEIR GRAVES, and then the living and risen saints MEET JESUS IN THE AIR. This is the second coming of Christ.

Matthew 24:30-31 .....'And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.'

Now compare the above Bible verse with the one ealier in Thessalonians. It's the same event. Jesus returns with a loud noise that the whole world sees and hears, and the living and risen saints are gathered to meet Jesus. Now where does the secret rapture fit into this? It doesn't! Why does Jesus need to send His angels out to gather the saints at the PHYSICAL second coming, when they have supposedly already gone to heaven in the secret rapture? Doesn't make sense does it? The truth is, the secret rapture theory is completely made up and not Biblical at all. The secret rapture theory was invented by Roman Catholic Jesuit priests and it is a very deceptive doctrine, which deceives people into thinking they will not go through the great tribulation before Jesus returns.

Second Coming a Noisy Event

Take a look at the following Bible verses describing the second coming of Christ Jesus and see if you can gather a clear picture of how Jesus will return.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-8 ...'And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.'

Acts 1:9-11 .....'And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.'

Revelation 1:7 ....' Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.'

Psalm 50:3-4 ....'Our God shall come, and shall NOT keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.'

Do you see the Bible truth about the second coming of Christ here? The Bible is so clear about how Jesus will return. It will not be a secret event, instead it will be noisy, bright, firey and every eye shall see Him come.

A Thief in the Night

Now this is the favorite for those who hold to the secret rapture theory; "Jesus is coming as a thief to rapture away His people in secret". And yet the Bible verses they use totally contradict what they take them to mean. Let's look at the first one:

2 Peter 3:10 .....'But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.'

As you can clearly see, those who believe in the rapture theory stop when the above Bible verse gets to "thief in the night", and completely ignore the rest of the verse, which shows HOW Jesus is going to return as a thief. Does it sound like a secret? Not at all! WHEN He does return as a thief, there will be a GREAT NOISE, and the elements will burn from the brightness of His coming. So what does it mean when it says that Christ will return at the second coming as a thief? Let's take a look at some more Bible verses:

1 Thessalonians 5:2-6 ....'For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.'

Paul is saying that the second coming of Christ Jesus will NOT overtake us (saved Christians) as a thief. Why? Because we are watching and waiting for our Lord and Saviour to return, and we will see the signs and know the "season" of His return. So exactly who does Jesus return as a thief for?

Matthew 24:43 ....'But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.'

John 10:10 ....'The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.'

Do you see this amazing Bible truth about the second coming of Christ? The thief comes to STEAL, KILL and DESTROY !! Jesus doesn't return for the saved as a thief, He is going to return as a thief for those who are LOST!! Those who didn't believe in Him, and those professing Christians who were not really living for Him and were not watching and waiting for His return. The saved will KNOW when He is coming and it will not be a surprise to them.

Friend, there is no secret rapture and there are certainly no second chances after Jesus returns. Just take a look at this sobering Bible verse:

Luke 13:25 .....' When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are.'

When the time of judgment is finished and Jesus stands to return to this earth, probation will have closed and there will not be any more chances to be saved. Those who are lost when Jesus stands will remain lost. Friend, it's time to get ready for your Lord and Saviour now! Don't put it off a moment longer. This is the Bible truth about the second coming of Christ Jesus. Watch, wait and be ready!!
